Courses
We were the first organisation in the UK to offer a minor illness course for nurses. Unlike similar courses run by universities, our seminars are still taught entirely by clinicians who have a wealth of experience in their field, and who also have an extensive, up to date knowledge of the relevant research literature. Our practice is accredited by the Royal College of General Practitioners as an investigator-led research practice, and receives research funding from the Department of Health. We also provide clinical input to the Clinical Knowledge Summaries (previously known as Prodigy).
For the last ten years we have been providing high-quality education for nurses from our NHS general practice in Stopsley, Luton. As the national specialists in minor illness, we also produced the standard text, the Minor Illness Manual. This book is now in its third edition, and has sold over 16,000 copies worldwide.
Since 1997 we have taught more than 700 nurses from the UK and abroad. The majority are practice nurses, but many have come from Walk-in Centres, Urgent Care Centres and Minor Injury Units. We have also taught nurses working in Occupational Health, School and Prison Services, ECPs and paramedics from gas rigs. Feedback from students has been overwhelmingly positive, with many of them voting it “the best course I have ever been on”.
