Meet The Course Team



Rhona Rollings BSc RGN CPT
Rhona has been a practice nurse for over twenty years. She was the first qualified Minor Illness Nurse Specialist in the UK; and has been working in this field for twelve years. Rhona is a Nurse Prescriber and a Community Practice Teacher. She is a lecturer on the course and a mentor for the students.


Dr Gina Johnson MB BS MSc MRCGP: Clinical Skills
Gina has worked as a general practitioner in Luton since 1983. She has always been actively involved in primary care audit and research, and has published articles on a wide range of topics. Gina completed an MSc in medical anthropology in 2002; her dissertation was on patients’ attitudes to over the counter medicines.  She is a medical acupuncturist, and practises Integrated Medicine.


Dr Ian Hill-Smith MB BS MD MRCGP MRCP: Pharmacology
Ian started publishing research papers while studying for his BSc degree in anatomy, before graduating in medicine from University College Hospital, London. He is a GP trainer and former GP Tutor: he designed and developed the Bedfordshire Primary Care Formulary. He is a member of the Royal Colleges of both Physicians and General Practitioners, and has an MD in primary care prescribing. He has published extensively on a range of topics.

 

Chris Ellis MB BS DFFP
Chris graduated from the Royal Free Hospital in 1982 and has been a GP for over twenty years. Chris keeps the practice running while the others are away teaching courses and is a member of the assignment marking team. He made a major contribution to the clinical content of the Minor Illness Manual.

 

Amber Kelly RGN RHV CPT BA MA
Amber qualified as a health visitor before moving to practice nursing, she is a nurse prescriber and community practice teacher and also has a Masters degree in literature. Together with Rhona she provided a nursing focus for the Minor Illness Manual and acts as a mentor to students on the six month course.

 

Geoff Morgan: Business Manager
Geoff's sound business sense keeps the National Minor Illness Centre on an even keel. We need his level-headed advice to restrain our sometimes wild enthusiasm.

 

Jill Fenwick: Course Administrator
Jill is responsible for the day to day running of the Centre, from answering the phone to providing our legendary lunches.
